Dermalogica!

Today was Dermalogica's product showing.

The Product showers were talking to the teachers and then with me. They tried so hard to talk to me in English, but when they heard that I understood and speak Japanese they started praising me. They were excitedly asking me about all kinds of things.

First we got Dermalogica's folder, product-book and papers that had the product's most important info like for what kind of skin they can be used, product's most important ingredients and how it is used. We went through all the products that the school uses and we got to test them. After lunch break we went through two more masks and then at the end Momoe was our demo-model for the quick Dermalogica-facial treatment. We got to participate in it by answering what kind of products the shower should use on her. At the end we got small bags that had products according to our skin types.

After school I quickly went to see this one shop in Harajuku before I left home! Tomorrow it should be cellulite-treatments.

Hauskaa juttua / Fun stuff

Today we had facial treatment and full body massaging at school.

I was Ayaka's partner today. Two slightly tired people as a pair is not such a good idea. It was incredibly hard not to laugh all the time, especially when Ayaka accidently put Cleansing Milk in my nostrils. We diligently went through the facial massage multiple times because of next week's "showings". I've noticed that I don't really remember that well the massage pattern that was taught to us in my school. I think I should try it at some point with the fake head, Suzy!

On the second class in the body room, I did a full body massage to Rena with my own school's pattern. Instructor Norie was keeping a keen eye on me. She time to time came to try the same movement as I and asked Rena how that specific movement felt like. It seem'd that she was very interested in my massaging-pattern in a good way. After that it was Rena's time to do full body massage to me.

Tomorrow I'll be at school only in the morning as my classmates have body-clients. I might also be spending time with my friend as she is going back home to Finland on Saturday.

Voitto! / Victory!

Sain asiakkaakseni ihastuttavan amerikkalaisen naisen. Vaikka paniikki-taso oli korkea, koko hoito meni todella hyvin! (Paitsi että unohdin laskea höyryttimen alas asiakkaan ollessa makuulla pedissä, kiitos Megumi-sensei!) Pysyin meidän hyvin tiukassa aikataulussa (Koko hoito on siis 40 minuuttia) ja sain asiakkaani nukahtamaan monta kertaa. Opettajamme Megumi jakoi asiakkaille palaute-lappuset jotka he täyttivät. Siivottuamme luokka menimme vielä teoria-luokkaan hetkeksi opiskelemaan. Saimme käsiimme asiakkaidemme palautteet. Melkein täydet pisteet! Ihanaa!!

P.S. On kiva kävellä melkein kilometri kaatosateessa juna-asemmalle aamulla. Onneksi kumisaappaat toimii! Sade jatkui iltaan saakka.

Oh god the nervousness in the morning. It felt like my body had resigned itself and left me by myself. Nothing was going well and panic almost struck.

After arriving at the school, on our first class we went through the massage in pairs multiple times. We polished our massaging-techniques as much as we could. After this we made all the beds and placed the products to be ready. After that it was lunch break. Barely managed to eat... For the first time I had horrible pressure if I was enough presentable looking. Was hair ok?! And had to have makeup!

After the break we went through some of the things we had to keep in mind and remember. Like for example that we need to place a disposable towel on the floor where our client could step on after taking off their shoes. That's the first time I've heard anything about that!! If I wasn't panicking enough earlier, I certainly was now. For my classmates this was just an ordinary client-day, but for me it felt like I was in the official exams.

I got myself a lovely american client. Even though my panic-levels were pretty high, everything went well! (Except that I forgot to lower down the steamer's head, thanks Megumi-sensei!) I managed to stay in the tight schedule (Whole treatment is 40 minutes) and I managed to get my client to fall asleep multiple times. Our teacher Megumi handed out some feedback-papers to our clients which they filled out. After cleaning the whole classroom we studied a bit more in the theory-classroom. We got our hands on the feedback-papers. Almost perfect score! Love it!! Now all this again on Friday... yay...

P.S. It's quite lovely to walk almost a kilometer to the train station when it's raining cats and dogs. Thank god my rubber boots are working! It kept raining till the evening.

Hermostunut / Nervous

Tänään sain taas hieman hemmottelua!

Opettajani teki minulle timantti-hionnan kasvoille.

Hermostuttaa...

P.S. Eka hyttynen on purrut minua. Kauhea paukama jalassa.

Today I got a little bit of pampering again!

My teacher did a diamond-peeling on my face. I think for the first time my skin was so soft the last time I was a little baby! Such a pleasant feeling after it. After the small pampering break, I did a full body massage to Rena. Following after the lunch break, I joined with my classmates and did the whole facial treatment in both directions.

Today I seriously had troubles staying awake. After yesterday's walking I didn't get much sleep for some reason, so I almost fell asleep during my treatment. Or actually, I'm not really sure... I might of slept... but that's okay as I got my therapist to fall asleep! In the class we went through what we need to remember for tomorrow's client-work. Hair tied up nicely, other girls have to have their tights, remove earrings and so on. What will come from this. It's going to be really funny to do this treatment in Japanese manners but in English. Of course it'll be easier for me, but still quite funny. So nervous....

P.S. First mosquito has bitten me. Horrible swelling on my leg.

Kiinnostava päivä / Interesting day

"Manners and etiquette".

Viikonloppuna/viikonlopun jälkeen koitan perehtyä kanjeihin että voisin edes vähän lukea papereita ilman että pitää nykiä Momoe-sanin hihasta koko ajan kysellen "What is that? What does it say? How do you read that?".

Today I had a very hard but interesting class. "Manners and etiquette". We don't have anything like that in Finland...

In the class we went through how to bow (Believe me or not, it's hard to do a "perfect" bow), bow-angles, how to approach, how to talk and how to instruct our client. Appearance is very important in Japan and the first meeting is a critical point for us. There must be eye-contact in our first meeting! Also smiling. Oh man my mouth's corners are so tired... Meeting the client we must keep in mind not to approach our client's personal space too fast. One step at a time after greeting and instructions.

We also did pair works, one was aesthete and the other one was client. Our teacher (Not from Takara, but does co-operate with them) recorded all of our mini acts and then we went through all of them while she gave us tips how to improve ourselves. We also got papers which had important sentences in "teinei"-style. (Teinei = Very polite way of speaking) I admit, some of the lines in our acts I did say in English as I didn't even know how to say them in normal way in Japanese...

On the weekend/after weekend I need to familiarize myself with kanji's so that I could read the papers a bit by myself without having to tug on Momoe-san's sleeve and ask "What is that? What does it say? How do you read that?"

After this we had manicure-class. This was my classmates's 3rd time of doing it. I got to be the first client in a 3-man group at which time I got to see how they do their hand-massage. I learned new massage moves!

Psst... I ate some corn-potato thing... and it tasted good!!

Hemmottelu / Pampering

No huh huh.

Opettajani demosi kuinka ranskalainen "relaxing" hieronta menee. Ryhdyimme hommin ja suoraan sanottuna olimme kaikki hieman sekaisin liikkeistä. Kun tajusin lopulta kuinka hieronta liikkeet menee... sain asiakkaani nukahtamaan petiin. Opettajani oli tästä hyvin innoissaan!

Vaihtaessamme, alkoi minun hemmottelu.

Sunnuntaiksi on suunnitelmia!

Well damn. Who would of guessed that when I go to school, I'll get really pampered?!

First of all, my Achilles tendons where in a lot better shape. They were a bit stiff in the morning, but they don't hurt anymore when I walk. They are a bit sore if my feet has been in a weird position.

First class was about nail diseases. We went through the most common ones we'll probably meet because of our profession and how to cure/hide them. (Most of them said to use dark nail polish on them if possible.) On our break, I drew a picture where I collected words for facial features as our next class was facial massage. I wanted to be sure I was on the bandwagon all the time.

Just as our break was ending, my teacher and another class's teacher came up to me and asked if I wanted to join her class to be a demo-model. I agreed on it and I ended up being a demo-model fro G5. (Which we also have in Omnia) There I was, lying on my stomach while, 12 students were buzzing around me watching as the teacher showed them how to use it. When the ladies asked me so nicely if they could touch, while they were going through the basic information paper, I agreed on it. In all other ways, the G5 was the same as ours, but they had slightly different massaging patterns than us but they were logical.

After being the demo-model I ate with my classmates talking about Disneyland's Easter-theme and soon happening Beauty World-expo. As the class started, I got a student as a client who has studied a bit longer than us, whom I did makeup removing and cleansing. My teacher demoed us how the french "relaxing" massage goes. We started it and frankly we were all a bit confused about the massage patterns. Once I realized how the patterns goes... I managed to make my client fall asleep. My teacher was really ecstatic about it!

Once we switched, the pampering started. My client, called Rena, did makeup removing and cleansing to me. Because she had already gone through this class, she got to practice another massage pattern. I was all jelly-feeling after the massage because she did the WHOLE massage 3 times! Oh yeah and she's also participating the massaging-competition. So yeah... I hope I get to see her next week. She was really nice and even though she didn't know to speak english at all, our teamwork was amazing!

After the class I headed home, wishing everyone a nice weekend. For Sunday I have plans!

He tutkiskelivat jalkojani ja yhtäkkiä sainkin kipua lievittävät lappuset jalkoihini. Kiittelin kovasti ja he sanoivat että antavat uudet minulle tauolla.

Ensimmäinen koulupäivän osio oli Estessimo-tuote koulutus. Vaikka en ymmärtänytkään aivan kaikkea, sain suurimman osan tuotteiden tiedot selville. Kokeilimme kaikki koulun Estessimo-naamiot käsiimme. Luokkatoverini tulivat tunnin päätteeksi ihmettelemään kuinka hyvin yksi naamioista oli saanut tasattua ihon värin kädessäni. Sain toisen parin lappuja jalkoihini!

When I woke up this morning my Achilles tendons were really painful. Walking was very hard at first but the pain eased up after a while. As I arrived to school, I asked my teachers would cold- or hot-pack be good for this kind of thing. They studied my feet and then suddenly I got pain-reliever patches on my feet. I was very grateful and they told me I'd get another new ones on my break.

My first part of my school day was Estessimo-product training. Even though I didn't understand h
everything, I understood most of the product info. We tried all of the school's Estessimo-masks on our arms. My classmates after the class came to marvel the fact how well one the masks had managed to even out my skin-tone. I got another pair of patches for my feet!

My second part of my school day was supposed to be more Estessimo-product training, but another class's teacher asked me to join her class where the ladies were using intoforesis and frimator. I joined the class and  I got to use the Patter-machine massage to a fake head called Suzy! In the middle of the class they switched partners and I hopped on the bed to be a model. In the mean while my Achilles tendons got to relax for a bit. The lady had a very confident grip so I got to relax during the whole treatment.

Before I managed to leave the school, my teacher game me one more pair of patches for tomorrow that I could use as soon as I arrived to school. I thanked and left home. On my way back to the house I had to really concentrate because there was a change in the train-lines today. I had to hop off at Nakano, walk fast to the other side of the platform and hop on another train.

I was thinking of spending Saturday completely at home so that my Achilles tendons get to relax. On Sunday I could go to Akihabara. I'll have to see if I get some company to another place, but that more about that then!

Ensimmäinen koulupäivä / First school day

Käytyämme koko talon läpi, lähdimme lompakot kainalossamme ulos käyskentelemään Naokoh-sanin näyttäessä missä ravintoloissa oli take awaytä jota voin syödä "ruokatunnilla".

Huomenna taas kouluun Estessimo-teoria tunnille!

I left at 10 o'clock to walk towards Kichijoji station. In the morning it was a bit windy but luckily I was prepared for that. The sun though was really shining. I had left a to go to the school earlier than I should of as you never know what could happen on the way. The trains were a bit delayed because of an accident...

I arrived at my school, Takara International Esthetic College, and bravely went to the 3rd floor greeting the guard and the info desk ladies. Once I stepped in to the training facilities, I met the interpretator Naokoh-san which started excitedly introducing me to the instructors and the office staff. When she asked me if I understood Japanese, I answered that I could but producing sentences was "maa maa" (so and so). After this everyone talked 95% of the time only Japanese to me. Which was ok, it makes me practice Japanese and I am very grateful of it.

With Naokoh-san we went through all the 9 floors greeting other employees who excitedly greeted me and was surprised when I understood what they were saying. I also met one boss who greeted me in a very western way and laughed. Most of the floors were firms that were co-operating with the college and also on 3 different floors had hairdresser facilities, products, machines and stuff. In the basement were our spa-treatment room and I also met there the building's engineer/technician. Once we had gone through the whole building, we left outside with our wallets to walk around while Naokoh-san showed me restaurants that did take ways that I could eat at our "lunch break" . We bought bento boxes from the street and then went back.

I was eating in the theory class when the first patch of my new classmates arrived. It seems they had been informed about me coming there and they welcomed me with open arms. They asked a lot of questions in Japanese and I answered the best way I could. I also got a small dark blue bag from my facial treatment instructor which had all the things I needed from facial sponges to a lovely "rose" clip for me when I had my hair up. After we ate we went to the facial treatment room where we went through basic facial treatment's makeup removing and cleansing. At the beginning of the class we all introduced ourselves to each other and my new classmates said that they are waiting excitedly working with me.

Some things were the same like in Omnia, but even in this basic facial treatment we got to use a Vacuspray machine for the toning water. Even their bedding style was different. (I'll try to draw it at somepoint!) The class was done completely in Japanese but luckily I have a photo memory and I've always been a practical person so nothing was left unclear! After the class I had a very successful feeling and I left towards "home" saying bye to the instructors, my classmates, info desk ladies and to the lovely guard! Tomorrow again to school to Estessimo theory class!
